Stargazing in Herefordshire

A Dark Sky Experience, Right Outside Your Door

Tucked away in the countryside with virtually zero light pollution, our setting allows the stars to shine with remarkable clarity.

We’ve created a dedicated stargazing space in our garden so you can enjoy it in comfort.

Our stargazing platform features handcrafted Viking-style chairs made from locally sourced ash wood, arranged around a fire pit. Wrap up in blankets, settle in, and let your eyes adjust as the sky slowly reveals its detail.

Moments like this are often what guests remember most:

“My favourite thing about our stay was having the telescope, fire pit, chairs and blankets set out for us… It’s been such a memorable stay and I really hope we can come back.”
— Molly Wilkins

A Glimpse of Our Night Skies

The clarity of Herefordshire’s skies means even a simple glance upward can reveal something extraordinary — from dense clusters of stars to the fleeting streak of a meteor crossing the sky. See below the amazing photo captured right here at the Cottages.

Stargazing from the Comfort of The Kiln

For something truly special, The Kiln offers a completely different way to experience dark skies in Herefordshire — without even stepping outside.

Cosy up in front of the fireplace, stay warm under soft blankets, and simply look up through the skylight windows above. With your own telescope provided, the night sky becomes part of the living space itself.

It’s intimate, peaceful, and perfect for those slow, quiet evenings.

What You Can See in Herefordshire’s Night Sky

Thanks to these dark skies in Herefordshire, there’s always something to look out for.

Depending on the time of year, you might spot:

  • Bright constellations and passing satellites
  • Planets visible to the naked eye
  • Seasonal meteor showers like the Perseids or Orionids

With our telescope and binoculars, you can go even further — bringing distant celestial objects into sharper focus.

Apps like Stellarium also make it easy to identify what’s above you in real time, turning the sky into your own interactive guide.

Stargazing in the Malvern Hills: A Dark Sky Discovery Site

For those wanting to explore beyond the cottages, you’re just a short drive from one of the region’s most remarkable stargazing spots.

The hamlet of Mathon in the Malvern Hills is an official Dark Sky Discovery Site, offering some of the best stargazing near Herefordshire.

On a clear night, you can even see the Milky Way with the naked eye — a breathtaking and increasingly rare sight.

Moonlit Walks & Big Sky Views

Back at the cottages, a gentle moonlit walk up the lane offers wide, open views across the surrounding countryside.

On clear nights, the landscape feels almost otherworldly — quiet, expansive, and beautifully still.

A Moment to Look Up

Stargazing has a way of slowing everything down.

Whether you’re gathered around the fire pit, exploring the constellations through a telescope, or lying back in The Kiln watching the stars through the skylight, it offers a rare chance to pause and reconnect.

So during your stay, step outside — or simply look up — and take it all in.

Happy stargazing in Herefordshire.
